Alright, here’s the thought…
With the possible hold out at the end of next season, what would happen with the NFL draft? In the past, there have been some seriously great draft classes stacked with talent… Well if the NFL is anything like the NHL and MLB, the players entering into the league would basically be put over until the next season’s draft, in effect making one huge SUPER draft class filled with a ton of senior players.
One of the major issues that the league is looking at is rookie signing policy and caps, limiting the amount of moneys that the new players could demand, making it easier for teams to sign them under cap…
Taking these two things into consideration, this hold out could result in being one of the best things for the league. And this is my reasoning why…
YES, the league will lose revenue for one season, BUT if everything works out as it should over the course of the discussions and the hold out, then here’s what I’m expecting.
1. All teams would have a super deep draft with which to fill holes in their rosters with young players, coupled with legal means to sign these young players to “reasonable” entry contracts…
2. The four teams which have been named as possibly moving will have a year to do so.
3. Teams cap penalties for old players who’ve left them crippled will likely be forgiven, allowing teams in salary cap hell the ability to start over fresh.
4. If the hold out is a prolonged one, we may see Goodell excused from his office (the peasants rejoice!)
What do you guys think of this?
