Tyree to Eli is the greatest super bowl play ever for 3 reasons. It was a great escape pulled off by Eli a young, widely criticized QB not known for shaking would-be tacklers paired with one the most amazing catches I've seen by a little known wide-out, Tyree certaintly not a spectacular catch weapon, for all you madden heads. Second, this is done in a pressure situation in the biggest game of the year to unseat the then 18-0 evil empire. The historic signifigance alone vaults this play near the top of all-time catches. How big of an underdog has Eli and the G-men been going into Sunday and how big of a victory that was thanks largely to that play. Three, the difficulty level of that throw and catch is enough to crown that play at top of my list. Take Eli's escape and add it to Tyree taking a jump ball for hall of famer Harrison only to have it fully smacked free from his grasp. Then the strength and awareness to grip and hold the ball one-handed on top of his helmet, bend over backwards and maintain possesion while keeping the ball off the ground what else do you want a blindfolded catch on a sheet of ice. Take the immacculate recption for instance Franco Harris scoops a deflected pass out of mid-air and trots into the endzone uncontested apart from the signifigance of that game was almost a routine tip drill yet is widely regarded as one of the best catches ever, not nearly close to all the things Eli to Tyree brought us.
did you notice how tyree landed on a couple of pats, harrison being one of them i believe, and preventing the ball from hitting the ground. nice concentration on tyree's part.
