No 1 draft pick?????
well it look like the No 1 draft pick will be Jemarcus Russell! But is he clear the best QB in the draft?
He seems to have a lot of potential but, is he gonna be the next Vince Young or the next Akili Smith?

RE: No 1 draft pick?????
I don't think comparisons to Akili Smith are fair at this point. Smith was talented, but didn't have nearly the athletic ability that Russell has. He was also relatively untested by a (then) weak Pac-10, while Russell has battled it out in the SEC.

We'll see, pac 10 is not a bad division either when smith was there. i think he has a lot of potential but it is a matter of fitting him in the system

If I were a NFL GM, I would almost always attempt to trade down in the first round. You can get similar talent (sometimes BETTER) for less money. Unless the projected 1st rounder is a complete stud like Bo Jackson, I say let someonen else take a gamble. I'll package my picks, move down, and get as many future starters as I can.

It all depend on the needs of the team. some people are only a couple of good players away. some people like Cleveland, miami, and detroit has a lot of holes.

RE: No 1 draft pick?????
Here is the point. If you have the #1 draft pick, it is because you have a bad football team. Bad football teams are more than one player away. They need alot of new, young, talented players. Trade the pick, get more picks later in the draft. Also, you could set your sights on a year in the future (3 years away) and stockpile 3rd and 4th round picks. You might still flail for a bit, but that megadraft year for you, if you do your homework correctly, could reap huge dividends.

Another thing to look at is these bad teams, need to get a player Like P Manning or Brady to just be the Key Player that everyone comes out to watch. No matter how bad Detroit was, everyone loved to come see Barry Sanders! then they build around them.

RE: No 1 draft pick?????
Yeah. Detroit did a great job of that. Look at the Pittsburgh Steelers of the 1970's. Multiple draft picks, most of whom turned into Super Bowl starters. The 49ers did the same thing - lots of good draft picks instead of one stellar one. Dallas Cowboys too. Sure, the picked Troy Aikman. But, it was the multiple picks they stole from Minnesota in the Herschel Walker deal that won the 3 Super Bowl rings.

Dallas' MVP in the 90's is Herschel Walker! I believe SD did the same when they traded there pick for ELI and M Vick. got some Key PLayers that is gonna produce for the next 5 to 10 years.
