I'd read that the Romans developed a competent soccer squad through their mid-pillage-and-plunder 5-a-side games; they used to use their enemies' heads as the ball. However, I can see the hair getting tangled in the racquets, so tennis was probably out for them.

Well I'm pretty sure basketball was invented in the U.S., Springfield, MA as a matter of face by Dr. Nashmith. Also records show as far back as 4000 B.C. China had some sports such as gymnastics.

I read somewhere that Golf was invented by Great Britain or Scotland (no one knows for sure). Players would hit rocks around using a stick or a club. Although some other countries also hit rocks with sticks the key in this was that they did not have a hole for the rock to go in.
